Transforming health through personalised care training for Integrated Care Boards, NHS Trusts, and Training Hubs

The Personalised Care Institute has launched a new education and advice hub designed to show how NHS organisations can use personalised care training initiatives to tackle regional priorities, improve health outcomes, and enhance workforce development.

This hub has been launched following our new report into the state of personalised care within our health and care system. Based on research of more than 2,000 patients and over 500 health and care professionals, it found that 45% of patients feel they have received health advice that is not suitable for their individual needs in the last two years.

This lack of personalised care has led to worsening conditions, avoidable GP and A&E visits, and a failure to adhere to treatment advice.

Through our new educational hub, we hope to support NHS organisations to deliver positive change by helping them enhance and embed personalised care across their services.

Patients Included

The PCI is delighted to have achieved Patients Included status, which demonstrates a commitment to incorporating the experience of patients as experts in living with their condition while ensuring they are neither excluded or exploited.

Accreditation

NHSE commissioners of personalised care training are now only procuring training that is PCI accredited. This is to ensure that all health and care professionals receive only high-quality, evidence based training that is linked to the PCI curriculum.

Partnerships

Collaboration is central to everything we do, which is why we are already working with more than 40 partner organisations. We would like to extend the breadth of our work across consultancy, research and international development.

The value of personalised care

The value of personalised care is demonstrated through growing evidence showing improvements in health outcomes, better adherence to medical advice and increased satisfaction for both patients and clinicians. PCI training allows health and care professionals to equip themselves with the knowledge and skills they need in order to deliver personalised care.

Personalised care gives patients more control and choice when it comes to the way their care is planned and delivered, taking into account individual needs, preferences and circumstances. Learn more about personalised care here.

Research shows that when patients have the opportunity to be involved in decision-making around personalised healthcare, there can be better outcomes and experiences and reduced health inequalities. Find out more here.

As part of the NHS Long Term Plan to deliver personalised care, a series of specialist roles have been created to help people access the support and advice they need. View them here.
